What run-flat tyres are
A run-flat tyre has a reinforced sidewall that is designed to keep supporting the car for a limited distance after a puncture, so you aren't left on the roadside with no spare. Several BMW, MINI and Mercedes models commonly use them, and some other makes do too. Many cars that have them have no spare wheel at all.
Why they need the right equipment
The stiff sidewall makes run-flats harder to fit than ordinary tyres. They need proper equipment and care, which is why I use the right machine for the job and don't try to force them on. I come to you, so you don't need a garage appointment.
Getting the right tyre
Send me your registration and I'll check what your car needs. If you're not sure whether your tyres are run-flats, look at the sidewall for a marking such as Run Flat or RFT, or check your handbook.
- I check the size, speed rating and load rating for your vehicle.
- I'll tell you what I can supply and the price before I set off.
- I fit and balance the tyres where the car is parked.
If you've had a puncture in a run-flat
Not every punctured run-flat can be repaired, and some tyre makers advise against it, so I'll check the tyre and tell you straight whether it can be repaired or needs replacing. If the tyre has been driven on after the puncture, replacement is the most likely answer.
Booking a fitting
I cover cars and light vans at your home, your workplace or the roadside, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Call me or send the form with your registration, and I'll tell you what I can supply, the price and an honest arrival time.
Pressure monitoring
Cars with run-flats usually also have a tyre pressure monitoring system, which is how you find out you have a puncture. If your warning light is on, I can look at that on the same visit.
Common questions
Can you fit run-flat tyres at my home?
Yes. I come to wherever the car is parked, as long as I can park the van safely and have room to work.
How do I know if my tyres are run-flats?
Look at the sidewall for a marking such as Run Flat or RFT, or check your handbook. If you're not sure, give me your registration and I'll check.
Can a punctured run-flat be repaired?
Sometimes, but not always, and some tyre makers advise against it. I'll look at the tyre and tell you straight whether it can be repaired or needs replacing.
